April 13, 2020

I hope everyone is staying safe during these times and finding value in this stillness. None of us expected this, and we are doing what we can to make it through together. I truly can't wait to see you all in person when this is over.

During the past few weeks I've gotten numerous phone calls, messages, and emails regarding the status of the Silver Room Sound System Block Party 2020. With so much uncertainty, the focus now should be on people staying safe and taking care of themselves. Furthermore, the climate is not conducive for seeking sponsorships or contracting with vendors, especially since Governor Pritzker and the CDC are recommending against large gatherings and festivals indefinitely, so we have decided cancel this year's party for the safety of everyone involved. We also feel it would be insensitive in this time to ask the team to take time away from family to work on an event that might not happen.

We understand the need to gather: As a community we have always turned to the arts as a form of healing and spiritual awakening. Those things will be needed more than ever this summer, and it saddens me to know that we will not be together this year.

This pause will give us time to regroup, plan, strategize, restructure, and come together to produce The Silver Room Block Party 2021, which we hope will be the best ever. I know this is not great news, but I wanted you to know as soon as possible.

Until then, you can continue to show support for the store, the Block Party, and our team with the following:

- Donating to the GoFundMe for Silver Room Staff
- Donating to Silver Room Foundation
- Buying from the Silver Room Online Store

Thank you for your support and for all you do for our community. I hope you are all safe and healthy, and until we can get together again, may peace and love rule your days.

- Eric Williams
